Cold chain

Cold-chain logistics for NFC lemon juice: from mill to buyer warehouse

Not-from-concentrate lemon juice is a live product. Break the cold chain once and 12 months of shelf-life collapses. Here is the reefer discipline NostraMareFoods enforces from mill to buyer receiving dock.

Reefer setpoint and tolerance

2–8 °C setpoint, ± 2 °C tolerance. Sub-zero destroys pulp cell structure; above 10 °C activates enzymatic browning within days.

Temperature logging per pallet

One TempTale or equivalent logger per pallet, sealed inside the shrink wrap. Data downloaded on arrival, PDF supplied with delivery documentation.

Break-of-chain protocol

If any pallet logs > 10 °C for > 4 hours in transit, the lot is quarantined and re-tested before release. Buyer has a documented right to reject the lot at landed inspection.

Warehouse handover

Reefer container plugged in until buyer receiving dock is ready. Unloading must complete in one shift with cold-store staging at 2–8 °C.

Insurance and claims

CIF quotes include cargo insurance covering temperature deviation. Claims filed within 7 days of arrival on the strength of the logger data.
