Spain is the heart of NostraMareFoods. The sun, soil and craftsmanship of Andalusia, La Mancha, Murcia and Valencia shape the flavors we bring to Sweden — and every bottle carries the warmth, generosity and slow rhythm of a Spanish summer afternoon.

History

From the Phoenicians and Romans who planted the first olive groves around 1000 BC, through the Moorish caliphate of Al-Andalus whose citrus gardens and acequia irrigation systems revolutionised agriculture, through the Reconquista, the Siglo de Oro, the Franco era and into today's modern kingdom — Spain's agricultural tradition is a thousand-year palimpsest of knowledge that has outlived empires.

Lifestyle

Long lunches stretching to five in the afternoon. Sobremesa around the table where the conversation matters more than the coffee. The siesta when the sun stands at its peak. The evening paseo along the seaside promenade. Tapas at sunset with a cold fino. Life at human pace — where the meal is the conversation, not just the food, and neighbours still greet each other by name.

Gastronomy

Olive oil as the base of everything — from breakfast to dessert. Lemon as the acid that lifts fish, salads and sweets. Tapas in every form. Valencian paella over open fire. Jamón ibérico de bellota from the oak forests. Gazpacho and salmorejo in summer. Tortilla de patatas as Sunday comfort. Churros con chocolate at dawn after a long night.

The people & families

Spanish families eat together every Sunday — three, four generations around the same table. On the plazas of Seville and Granada friends meet after work for an olive, a piece of bread dipped in green oil, a glass of wine. On the beach in Cádiz families share a thermos of gazpacho and sandy slices of melon. It's this warmth — this effortless generosity — we package into every bottle.

Landscapes & farms

The slopes of Jaén where silver-green olive trees stand in straight rows as far as the eye can see, terra rossa soil burning in the July sun. The citrus groves of Murcia and Valencia where orange and lemon blossom (azahar) fills the air in April. The grain plains of La Mancha. Vineyards of La Rioja. The dehesas of Extremadura where black pigs graze among cork oaks.

Arts, music & literature

Cervantes and Don Quixote, García Lorca and his Andalusian duende, Picasso, Goya, Velázquez, Dalí, Miró, Almodóvar and his melancholy comedies. Flamenco from Andalusia — a UNESCO-listed art form. Classical guitar from Tárrega to Paco de Lucía. Copla and cante jondo. Philosophers like Ortega y Gasset, María Zambrano, Unamuno. Theatre from Calderón to Lorca's La Barraca.

Our partnership

We work directly with independent family cooperatives in Andalusia and Murcia — no middleman, no anonymity. We visit our producers each harvest season, eat with them, learn from them. When you buy a bottle from us, a fair share goes straight back to the hands that picked the fruit.

The journey to you

From hand-picked lemons in Murcia and olive groves in Jaén — the oil and juice are cold-pressed and bottled in Spain within 24 hours of harvest, shipped in temperature-controlled containers across the Mediterranean past Gibraltar, up through the Atlantic and the North Sea, and land in our warehouse in Sweden within 14 days — ready for shops and your door.
